A celebration of our diversity
What’s In A Name? is an exchange between workshop participants, our dancers and the host/poet. A continuous conversation is formed between these three entities in asking each to get inspired by one another and to create new work based on each others’ responses.
The program will focus on individuality and celebrate the diversity of the participants by delving into the history and stories of each one’s names.
The 1.5 hour workshop will start with the host/poet talking about names and discuss the idea of getting inspired by motion and movement, of seeing the body as a story and using motion as a vehicle to tell the story. The dancers will perform short works inspired by poems about diversity and names. After the dance is finished our host/poet will ask the dancers how they translate words into movement, their process and the idea of cross-disciplinary creation. Our host/poet will then ask the participants to tell their own story about their name. As they share our host/poet will take notes and create a new work based the name stories. The dancers will perform the piece and then open the floor to a Q&A.
What's In A Name? focuses on the individuality of the participants while celebrating their diversity!
