The LAB will invite two high schools; one local and another from a different socio-economic and geographic region of the country to apply their unique voices to create videos (REEL FREE) and writing (FREE VERSE) that speaks to their vast experiences. The ten student writers will be chosen through a submission process by a panel of editors from our literary journal, Platform Review.

The LAB will allow a comfortable space for students to communicate openly about a common experience from their individual perspective. Once the FREE VERSE poems and prose pieces are finished, they will be shared with students in the other participating school who will create REEL FREE videos. The groups of students will have at least 2 virtual meetings to discuss the works and learn more about each other’s worlds. Each three minute videos made on cell phones, will be used as backdrops for the live readings to enhance the overall experience by combining the two mediums. The LAB will culminate in a hybrid-live event.

The LAB is open to participating high schools anywhere in the world.
