Dedicated to revision of a single piece, building the writer’s platform and submission to literary journals.

REVISION is a 6-session workshop aimed at writers of all ages who are committed to the craft of revision and submission to literary journals.

In the publishing world, writers are sought out by literary agents and publishers seeking those with a robust "platform." The public wants to hear your work and see you. It is not just about the number of publications you have or the substance of your work but also includes your overall presence and impact in the literary community. Revision will enable you to curate a platform, widen your presence, and help you jump-start the next level of your journey with a 5 step process.

REVISION will include:

1) Crafting A Work for Publication
Writers will bring in one piece of poetry, prose, short story, flash fiction, creative nonfiction or experimental hybrid. We will critique and work on edit suggestions. Writers will return ready to share their revised piece ready to submit for publication and use as a launch point.

2) Building Social Media Presence
It is imperative to establish yourself as a writing visionary. A social media presence consists of Instagram for the broader literary world and a strong website that acts as a digital calling card and the nucleus of your creative identity and brand. The website will have your writing, interviews, podcasts, performances, visual arts, community work, and anything that elevates you as a creative. You will shape your brand according to your vision and personalize it so it screams “you!”

3) Query letters, Cover letters, and Bios
When submitting work to online or print journals, it is vital to include cover letters and bios. It is invaluable in introducing and distinguishing yourself from other writers to the publication editor. If you are submitting a manuscript or chapbook you will need to construct a Query Letter. We’ll guide you in crafting a concise yet irresistible letter that will seize the attention of publishers and ‘mimics’ your website/social media presence.

4) List of Journals
We will explore literary journals and small presses, Submittable and Duotrope. We will guide participants to build their own database of find like-minded journals for the best chance of publication.

5) Post-Publishing Outreach and Readings
You may be familiar with the saying, ‘if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, it doesn't make a sound.’ Now that your piece is published, it's crucial to capitalize on your success by reaching a wider audience. We will look at open mics, readings and other methods to attract more attention to you as a writer and your published work.
