On May 4th ARTS By The People and the Montclair State Dance Program will begin our collaborative partnership. The dancers will perform 4 solo works including structured improvisation with selected poems and writings written by our senior citizens over the past 7 years. A brief talk back with the dancers and writers after the performance.

Next week ABTP will begin a new series of workshop clinics throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn that will introduce participants of all ages to the art of jazz: the past, present and future of America’s first mainstream music. The clinic will explore the progression of Jazz from it’s start in the early 20th century New Orleans, to current day jazz musicians, and how it continues to bridge generations.
Leland Baker is a New York City based jazz saxophonist who grew up in Providence, RI. He has lived and spent time honing his craft in the city of New Orleans, LA and New England. Leland has had the opportunity to play with Alicia Keys, and study and play with some of jazz’s titans including Lawrence Clark, Kahlil Bell and Roy Hargrove. He teaches music, and leads his own quartet by the name of The Free 5. Leland continues to pursue his vision as an artist in hopes to make a positive difference in the world by bringing souls together and challenging the spectrum of superficial reality. ...
